Sethuparvati Dam

Kundala is an idyllic place in Munnar located on the way to Top Station or Top Slip. Surrounded by rolling hills and valleys of dense forests, Kundala is known for the Kundala Arch Dam or Sethuparvati Dam and Kundala Lake. Kundala is situated about 27 km from the town of Munnar at an altitude of 1700 m above sea level.

The picturesque setting of this 70 ft-high arch-shaped dam is a great tourist attraction due to its strategic location near Munnar and the exotic viewpoints from this place. From Munnar you have to commute just 20 km before you come upon this wonderful locale.
On the way to Top Station or Top Slip in Munnar, you will encounter Kundala Lake and the Sethuparvati Dam. The locale is about 1700 meters or 5940 ft above sea level. It is located near another prominent tourist location, the Mattupetty Lake.

Shakthan Thampuran Palace

Shakthan Thampuran Palace is situated in City of Thrissur in Kerala state, India. It is named as Vadakkekara Palace, was reconstructed in Kerala-Dutch style in 1795 by Ramavarma Thampuran of the erstwhile

Poyilkotta, kerala

This laterite fort was believed to be built by the Bednore Naikans in the 17th century A.D. The fort is in complete decay. The remains show that the original fort was eight feet in thickness and more than fifteen feet in height. Inside the fort there is a temple, and a big pond with steps. Considering the historical importance, the fort with an area of 8.44 acres of land is already declared as protected monument in 1985.

The Peruvannamuzhi dam

The Peruvannamuzhi dam site set amid hills is a beautiful picnic spot. The reservoirs here provide facilities for speed and row boat cruises during which one can see the Smarakathottam - a garden built in memory of the freedom fighters of the region. Uninhabited islands, a bird sanctuary and a crocodile farm add to the charm of the place.

The Peruvannamuzhi Dam is part of the Kuttiady irrigation project and the water stored here is used for to generate electricity and for irrigation purposes as well. The dam meets the water requirements of three main districts - Kozhikode, Malapuram and Kannur. Peruvannamuzhi Dam also provides water for the famous Japan Govt. Aided Drinking Water Project.   

Thanks to its alluring beauty, Peruvannamuzhi is becoming a popular tourist destination. 

Peringalkuthu Dam

Peringalkuthu Dam is a concrete dam built across the Chalakkudi River in Thrissur district, Kerala state of India. It also contains Peringalkuthu Hydro Electric Power Project of Kerala State Electricity Board who owns the dam.

Around 8 kms from the dam is a lovely spot where there is a confluence of three rivers - Kuriarkutty, Karapara and Parambikulam. If you are at Athirapally Waterfalls or Anakkayam, then the dam is not too far. Accommodation is available at Riverok Villas.

Peechi Dam - kerala

Peechi Dam is situated 22 km outside Thrissur city in Kerala, India. The dam was started as an irrigation project for the surrounding villages in Thrissur. At the same time, it catered the drinking water needs of the population of Thrissur City.

If you are in the mood for wildlife spotting then a trip to Peechi-Vazhani Sanctuary is recommended. If it is your lucky day, you could spot elephant, bison, leopard, deer and many more animals. And keep a look out for birds. The sanctuary is home to over 50 varieties of birds, so keep your binoculars and cameras handy! If you want to trek through the forest, permission is required.

You could also take a boat ride on the reservoir as the Tourism Promotion Council provides boats. There is a pretty park and garden where you could enjoy a laid-back stroll or picnic on the lawns. The park has some lovely sculptures too. Close by you can see a statue of the legendary Pazhassi Raja. In case you’d like to stay over, there is accommodation at the Project Inspection Bungalow.

Palakkad Fort

Palakkad Fort is an old fort situated in the heart of Palakkad town of Kerala state, southern India. It was built by Hyder Ali in 1766 ACE and remains one of the best preserved forts in Kerala.

Palakkad Fort has been commended for the way it has been preserved. There is a large ground between the town hall and the fort known as the ‘Kotta Maidanam’, translated into Malayalam as ‘Fort Grounds’. This ground was once used as a stable for Tipu Sultan’s horses and elephants. Now, it is used to play football and cricket matches.

Mattupetty Dam, near Munnar in Idukki District

Mattupetty Dam, near Munnar in Idukki District, is a storage Concrete Gravity dam built in the mountains of Kerala, India to conserve water for hydroelectricity.

Enroute to Top Station, when you are traveling toward Munnar, you will come across the beautiful Mattupetty Hill Station at an altitude of 1700 meters. Woody hills and tea plantations form a beautiful backdrop for Mattupetty Dam and Lake. You can see elephants roaming through the dense eucalyptus trees. Or you may witness elephants competing with colorful birds to quench their thirst from the lake.

Mangalam dam is constructed across the river Cherukunnapuzha which is a tributary of Mangalam river. A canal system for irrigation purpose was completed and opened in 1966, in the Alathur taluk of Palakkad district in Kerala, South India.

Mangalam Dam rests amidst rubber, pepper, coffee and tapioca plantations which add an abundance of greenery to this region and a lot of commercial value too. The Kadappara area here also has a forest. Those interested in anthropology will be interested to know that many Adivasis (tribals) live deep in this forest. You will also come across a petite little waterfall here. The park is enriched with wildlife like deer, elephants and a variety of birds.

Mananchira Square, located in the heart of Kozhikode city

Mananchira Square, located in the heart of Kozhikode city, is wrapped around the Mananchira Tank which is fed by a natural spring. Built by Mana Vikrama, the last Zamorin King, it has been preserved almost in its original form and continues to supply water. Mananchira Square attracts locals and tourists alike as this leafy park is a great spot to spend a relaxed evening. The park, being in the center of the city, is easily accessible. It is close to the Central Library and the Police Commissioner’s office.

A half-day trip is more than enough to see the entire dam, the adjoining garden, the rope way etc. The dam also provides several scenic points for tourists.

The Linganamakki dam was constructed by the Karnataka State

The Linganamakki dam was constructed by the Karnataka State Government in 1964. Located in the Sagara taluk, the dam has a length of 2.4 km, stretching across the Sharavathi river. It is located about 6 km from Jog Falls.

Jog Falls, one of Karnataka’s most popular tourist destinations is a mere 6 kms from here. When the dam’s sluice gates are shut upstream from Jog Falls, you can walk down into the fall’s ravines – quite a thrilling experience!

The Krishnapuram Palace, Kerala.

The Krishnapuram Palace is a palace and museum located in Kayamkulam near Alappuzha in Alappuzha district, Kerala in southwestern India. It was built in the 18th century by Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma, the Travancore kingdom.

The Krishnapuram Palace can be reached from NH 47 via Kayamkulam in Alappuzha District. It is in the vicinity of Sree Krishnaswamy Temple at Krishnapuram.

Krishna Raja Sagara Dam.

Krishna Raja Sagara, also popularly known as KRS, is the name of both a lake and the dam that creates it. It is located close to the settlement of Krishnarajasagara. The dam is across Kaveri River, in Mandya in Karnataka state, India
The dam is at the confluence of three rivers - Cauvery, Hemavathi and Lakshmanatirtha. Krishna Raja Sagar Dam is an commanding structure and is a great example of state-of-the-art engineering.
The lovely Brindavan Gardens are next to the dam. There’s a boating pond too which enables you to cross the dam from its northern to southern bank.

The Koyikkal Palace is a palace situated in Nedumangadu, Thiruvananthapuram District, Kerala in South India. The palace was built in 16th century for Umayamma Rani of the Venad Royal Family.
Koyikkal Palace is today home to a Folklore Museum and a Numismatics Museum set up by the Department of Archaeology. The Folklore Museum, which was set up in 1992, is a treasure trove of old-fashioned musical instruments, implements, household utensils, models of folk arts and more. The Numismatics Museum has the distinction of being the only one of its kind in Kerala, and has a rich and priceless collection of coins, many of them very rare.

Karapuzha Dam, Kalpetta, Kerala.

Karapuzha Dam located in the Wayanad district of Kerala, is one of the biggest earth dams in India. Karapuzha Dam is located in the greenish and natural regions of Wayanad, Kerala on the Karapuzha River, a tributary of the Kabini River.
Edakkal is a must visit destination of Wayanad. The good news is that Edakkal is only 10 kms from Karapuzha dam.
Ambalavayal is a small town 5 kms from the Lake. There is a museum and agricultural research centre (RARS), in case you have a couple of spare hours to spend.
Karapuzha dam is located about 17 kms east of Kalpetta. Bathery is at 17 kms and Mananthavady at 45 kms.
Karapuzha Dam is around 7 km away from Kakavayal (Kakavayal is on NH-212, 8 Km from Kalpetta in Sulthan Bathery direction). It is easily accessible from Kozhikode (89 km) and Mysore in Karnataka (131 km).
