Palakkad Fort is an old fort situated in the heart of Palakkad town of Kerala state, southern India. It was built by Hyder Ali in 1766 ACE and remains one of the best preserved forts in Kerala.
Palakkad Fort has been commended for the way it has been preserved. There is a large ground between the town hall and the fort known as the ‘Kotta Maidanam’, translated into Malayalam as ‘Fort Grounds’. This ground was once used as a stable for Tipu Sultan’s horses and elephants. Now, it is used to play football and cricket matches.
