Shivappa Nayaka's palace

Shivappa Nayaka's palace, Shivamogga, Karnataka. Front view of the Shivappa Nayaka palace. The famous Bekal Fort at Kasargod in Malabar, was built by Shivappa Nayaka. Shivappa Nayaka (ಶಿವಪ್ಪ ನಾಯಕ) (r.1645–1660), popularly known as Keladi Shivappa.

There are a few other places of interest you may want to see around Shivappanayaka Fort, including the Devagange Tank which in fact used to be the bathing ponds of the queens of  bygone eras. It has a fountain and has the appearance of a swimming pool. The uniqueness of the tank is that the fountain is replenished with water round the year. The reason for this is that, a tank is maintained atop a mountain in the vicinity, which is filled with water all 365 days from which a copper pipe reaches the fountain below. As the water flows below from the mountain, the pressure built up is ample to ensure that the fountain can spew water continuously.
