Edamalayar Lower Dam is a multipurpose concrete gravity dam located at Ennakal, near Bhoothathankettu, on the Idamalayar River, a tributary of the Periyar River in Kerala, South India.
Edamalayar Lower Dam 81 km from Ernakulam in the district of the same name, and 10–12 km from the Bhoothathankettu Dam, on the Periyar River. 
Very few people know about the interesting tourist locales in this area. The ride to Idamalayar Dam is a pleasure as you glide past green trees and hills. You are also likely to see elephants on the road. The view from the dam is amazing, especially during dawn when the sun throws its multi-hued rays across the sky and illuminates the entire picturesque surroundings.
Idamalayar Multi-Purpose Concrete Gravity Dam is situated at Ennackal, near Bhoothathankettu on the Idamalayar River, which is a tributary of the River Periyar, originating in South India. This dam was completed in 1985, and has a length of 373 meters. It is a multi-purpose reservoir spanning 273 km in the awe inspiring scenic hills of the Western Ghats.
The source of the river Idamalayar lies in the Annaimalai Hills which form the southern part of the Western Ghats that is inundated with heavy rainfall in the long monsoon months. The river is a perennial source with a large and wet catchment area covering 381 sqkms in the hilly region
