Dowleswaram Barrage played an important role in the financial wellbeing of South India. The barrage is an irrigation structure built on the last stretch of Godavari River before it empties out into the Bay of Bengal.
Dowleswaram Barrage averted famines and stimulated the economy. The barrage is 15 feet high and 3.4 kilometers high. Adjacent to two mid-stream islands, the Dowleswaram Barrage was constructed in four divisions.
