Banasura Sagar Dam, which impounds the Karamanathodu tributary of the Kabini River, is part of the Indian Banasurasagar Project consisting of a dam and a canal project started in 1979.
Banasura Sagar Dam has the distinction of being India’s largest earthen dam and Asia’s second largest. 

Also known as Padinjarathara Dam, It is an ideal place to kick-start treks because the dam nestles amidst lofty, mist-capped mountains, known as the Banasura Hills. The dam has been constructed across Banasura Lake.
